Mississippi Headwaters!

Becky, Me & Pam

We 3 crazy fun friends, took the day to celebrate the Autumn Exquinox and headed to Itasca State Park.  Wow, it was a fabulous day, filled with fun side-stops, laughter and  treats.

Of course, we splashed (I started it), and walked across our beautiful Mississippi River …

We spent some time in the woods, replenishing our Spirits, and took moments away … in our own directions for quiet reflection.

One of my favorite poems kept echoing in my heart as we wandered through the forest.  You can join me … it’s best when you go slow … very, very slow …. pause and breathe …

Trees … by Joyce Kilmer.

I think that I shall never see, a poem as lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day, and lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear, a nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me, but only God can make a tree.

~ ~ Sigh ~ ~

It was a fantastic day, indeed!  Nothing like being swooped up in Mother Nature to see and feel the miracles our earth holds for us.  What a gift to all of us.

Thanks for joining me on the journey.

My Encouragement to You:  Take some time to get your feet in the grass, the pine needles, feel the sand stick between your toes – the stones that will give you a great reflexology treatment!  Lean against a tree.  Pause and see all the beautiful leaves, each floating in the breeze, waiting to be discovered by an appreciative eye – their gift to you.  Embrace single moments and breathe with a grateful heart.

Blessings and Love,

The Healing Power of Touch

energy healing hand

Most of us have been fortunate to be on the receiving end of kind, supportive, loving touch.  Perhaps a childhood memory of a kiss or a hug after falling down and getting hurt.  Or the shoulder touched in giving support, or a warm hug of understanding, maybe a squeeze on the knee.  Your hand, held.

No words needed.

It was perhaps, the briefest of moments.

Compassion.  Love.  Presence.

Receiving support.  Not  needing to understand or explain.

In that moment … you softened, your heart slowed down, maybe you were able to take some deep, needed breaths.

You were seen.

You were not alone.

hand-on-shoulder_full

Touch is healing.

We feel the energy from someone’s touch.  It can be powerful, as much as it can be gentle.  They are giving.  We are receiving.

It’s vulnerable to receive.

It’s a gift we give ourselves.  Allowing ourselves time to soak up some kindness offered,  some compassion given.  That loving touch accepts us, our authentic selves, no matter how messy, scared, snotty, angry or hurt we are.

It helps us heal.

Pure and simple.

Kind.  Compassionate.  Loving.  Touch …

Heals.

My encouragement to you:  At one time or another, you will be on the giving – or receiving end of healing touch.  Simply be present in the moment, either way.  I believe it’s the connection of Spirit that brings us together.  To support, accept, to strengthen and to breathe in the blessings given in the moment.

Blessings and Love,

Finding Peace … With Healing Touch

20190603_112553_HDR_Signature

In this chair … In this room … Clients find peace.

We live busy, crazy lives.  Filled with lists of things to get done, expectations to be met, people who need our time and attention.  We are pulled in many directions, all at the same time.  The world is becoming a scarier place to live … and within it all, people are stepping up in kindness.  Being a light for others.  Being a voice.  Being a hand.  Being a heart of love.

In the stress of life, it’s important to be able to step back and ground ourselves in ways that give us relief.   Rest our bodies.  Quiet our minds.  Be it play, socializing, being alone, doing art, meditating, being in nature, getting enough sleep, exercising, eating a healthy meal, saying ‘no’. (Easier said, than done!)

My clients come to step back from life, let go of the busy-ness, the expectations … to allow peace to blanket them and stress to melt away.  They come from all backgrounds … moms, business owners, bankers, teachers, retirees, those who have had cancer, lost loved ones through accidents, suicides, miscarriage, who have gone/going through divorce, job changes … each one has a name.  Each one has their story.  It is an honor for me to be in their lives.

Our sessions are short in the big scheme of Life.  But in those moments … something amazing happens.  There are no words to explain … peace and gentle healing wafts in softly and carries them through the days ahead.  I feel it.  They feel it.  It is one of my great joys in being an Energy Worker.  Once peace is felt and experienced, they know they can find it again … in many ways.  I simply open the door for them to receive, Spirit/God does the rest!

My Encouragement to You:  Take time for yourself and leave guilt at the curb.  Try new experiences.  Always remember to breathe.  Be kind to yourself.  Be kind to others.  Pause in the morning, during the day, before you go to bed … and feel all the things you’re grateful for … and say ‘Thank you!’  There is peace in gratitude … it will change your life.

Thanks for joining me on the journey!  I am grateful!

Wishing you peace.

Letting Go of the Old … To Welcome the New

Getting rid of stuff …

It’s ‘letting go of the old‘ time.  Getting rid of stuff … old business files … why have I been hauling and storing bins of them?  Getting rid of clothes … that might fit ‘someday’ … the fridge looks sparkly clean and pretty empty, which makes me smile.  Once a month, the Epilepsy Foundation does a pick-up and I try to have at least one bag to donate.  It’s been a reflective process, a relief … a lightness that feels so good.

In the past 7 years, I’ve had 4 fambly (our nick-name for family) members die.  It is not an easy job to get things sorted and cleaned out.   In our situation, there were very few precious items sought out by fambly and a whole lot to be sorted, donated, recycled and hauled to the landfill.  It’s a generational ‘Passing On’ of treasures that is taking a huge left turn – the kid’s don’t have room for parent’s stuff, (they have plenty of their own) nor are tastes in styles or art embraced with open arms to have and hold forever and ever …

(Yes, there ARE exceptions – because some things are precious … emotionally or monetarily).

Turning into my last quarter in life, I had a campfire going for a couple of evenings this past week.  Sorting, reflecting, giving thanks and letting papers go up into flames.

I put a bit of cedar (cleansing and purification) and spruce (healing and purification properties) at the closing of the fire.  Memories that need to be stored, will be in my heart.

Then … with the Full Moon tonight and Summer Solstice on Friday (alot of emotional energy for me – I bought my house on a Summer Solstice!), I smudged and blessed my Little Cottage House.

20190615_220458_Burst01Sage for Smudging and House Blessing

I open some windows to allow negative energies to leave with ease and starting outside, at the front door, I ask God, Angels and all Beings of Light and Love (Those who have crossed over), to surround and protect the land my home is on.  I also thank Mother Earth for creating a strong foundation for my Little Cottage House.

20180319_090504

Inside the front door,  I ask for love, harmony, health, peace and prosperity for all who cross the threshold of my home.  Then, one by one … room by room, in a clockwise direction, I say a prayer, a blessing … ending up in my backyard.

I like using sage for smudging.  I believe sage is purifying. The most-used types of sage have antimicrobial properties and helps release negative energy.  I often add cedar … I love the smell and like it for its cleansing and purifying properties.

If you don’t like to smudge, but like the idea of a House Blessing … Light a candle, set your intention, use blessed water in a bowl and sprinkle it in each room with a cedar bough or pine branch or … whatever you have nearby … saying a prayer/blessing.  Find favorite bible verses or poems that resonate with your heart.

Or … use a bell or singing bowl.  Ring in each corner, with a blessing/prayer in the center of the room or inside the doorway.  The vibration will release negative energy and the room will feel lighter.

Letting go of unnecessary documents, papers, clothes and all kinds of stuff … releases the past and makes room for fresh and new ideas, surprises and gifts from God/Spirit and the Universe.  We aren’t clinging to things and putting our energy into hanging on to it all … Our arms are wide open to receive …

And welcome the new …

The Folks Have Died … Treasures and Stuff to Process

Whew.

With the passing of our folks, we were left with raw emotions, exhaustion and an estate needing to be dealt with.  A Fambly Circle was called by me, the new ‘Matriarch’.  My  eclectic bunch of siblings deemed me to be so, as the eldest and bossy sister.  Patrick had said, “We always do what you tell us to do, so why stop now!”

Thankfully, we had talked with Mom and Dad, and a couple of key roles were already in place before they passed.  Jake was executor and we as siblings, agreed to sell the house.  The folks had met our Realtor, Liz Timothy, early in the summer, and welcomed her insight and knowledge as to what was best to do for the successful sale – thus the shingles, mentioned in a previous blog.

Our first agreement in our Fambly Circle was to take. a. break.  We needed a time-out from everything – and create a new normal within our personal lives.  Hugs, kisses, tears, laughter and waves “Goodbye”, were exchanged as we departed en masse from the folks driveway.

“The 7”

Seven Siblings and Our Folks – Last Christmas Together With Them

A month or so later, we siblings only, “The 7”,  no spouses or significant others, gathered around the folks dining room table.  In honor of the folks, we started with a prayer (I think they were smiling all day long).  We took turns, eldest to youngest, stating one item at a time we wanted from the folks.  ‘Round and ’round we went, some of us bowing out after a few ’rounds … until there was silence and a sigh.  Amazing – no one wanted or had to have – something someone else had asked for.   (Gosh I love this bunch!)

We then put post-it-notes on our stuff – stopped – looked around and realized – we still had a CrAzY amount of stuff to deal with.

We decided to do a Fambly Auction, with Jake printing up “Grandpa Bucks” in various denominations.  All the Fambly was invited from babies to big people.  Everyone got the same amount of $$ to bid with.  They could combine their $$ with others, if they were hot and heavy into a purchase.  EVERYTHING purchased, had to be hauled out of the house by the end of the weekend.  Including “The 7’s” earlier items.  Jake was the Auctioneer – he was a hoot!

One of my favorite memories – My grandson Declan, was 6 years old.  He had been seriously watching and observing how this ‘bidding game’ was being played.  After a bit, Jake gave a great presentation on the giant tv console in the living room.  Declan piped up, “$10!”.  Jake said, “We’ve got $10 from Declan, do we have $15?”.  Declan yelled “$15!” (He really wanted it!)  Jake smoothed it over and asked for another bid from everyone – once – silence – twice – silence – three times – silence.  “SOLD to Declan for $10!”, declared Jake.  Everyone cheered, Declan jumped up and down, clapping his hands.  “I got it, I really, really got it!!” Jake swept his hands over the TV in the console with a flourish, “This TV, which you can see, fits perfectly inside this beautiful console, Declan just bought.  I’m asking for a bid of $5 … does anyone have a bid?”  There was silence.  “Declan, do you have a bid?”, asked Jake.  “$5!!!”, Declan said with excitement.  “SOLD to DECLAN! for $5”, yelled Jake.  Again, there were cheers from the crazy Fambly crowd!!!!

After the auction … and helping each other load trailers, vans and trucks, we set a date and agreed to get back together again, as there was still – stuff.  Not as much, but still .. lots and lots of stuff.

Our final clearing was done.  I was grateful to my niece, Nicky, who took care of Mom’s closet.  Many donations to various organizations.  Mom had numerous  books from a Catholic Book Store she once owned, Hosanna House, in downtown Brainerd.  My sister, Kyung, and William, took them all to St. Francis School and donated them to their library.  Rick had a trailer that hauled things to the landfill and things everywhere else.  That felt good!

The hardest thing for me, when we began this process, was the beginning to do it.  My beginning to do it, was taking one of Mom’s magnets off the refrigerator.  I began to cry.  That was it for that day.  One magnet.  I left and walked across the yard, home.

Now … The house was empty except for a few things for staging. (Sigh)  We cleaned it up and had a showing.  It looked ‘dated’ was the comment from a potential buyer.  Mom liked wallpaper.  Mom liked being creative with how she hung wallpaper.  Mom liked wallpaper alot.  Colors needed to go – so did the wallpaper.  I stripped wallpaper like crazy.  Then, started to paint.  My brother, Patrick came and helped me paint … it was sad, but felt good.

The house was being filled with new light and open to new life.

…. And Sold!  Thanks, Liz!

I love my Fambly.  We are an odd bunch, with various quirks, gifts and talents.  Love is the thread that weaves us together, holding frayed edges in place, circling together when it’s time to play or work or grieve.

My encouragement to you … Take your time when you lose someone(s).  Feel your emotions.  Be sad.  Angry.  Afraid.  Lonely.  Let them come out, don’t stuff them.  You will get waves of emotions and memories popping up unexpectedly.  It’s part of the grieving.  There is no time-line for grieving.  Take breaks.  Breathe different air.  Surround yourself with softness, kindness, understanding, forgiveness and most of all Love.  Be with people.  Be alone.  Ask for help.  Drink water.  Lots and lots of water. More tears – more water.  Remember to breathe.  Remember to eat.  Sleep.  Walk.  Walking is good.  Go to church.  Don’t go to church.  Lean on people when you need to.  Be gentle with yourself.  In your gentleness,  in your quiet time, peace will come.  In time.  God does not leave.

Thank you for sharing this walk with me. Wow, it continues to be a journey.

“Skippy” … A Soul Connection

Photo by Ray Bilcliff on Pexels.com

I’m sharing stories I’ve personally experienced with connections to Spirit and the affirmations they bring into my life and the lives of clients.  In doing so, I hope you recognize ways God/Spirit is connecting with you.  Little signs of intuition, a premonition, a whisper or a nudge, a sign of synchronicity, a dream … there are many ways we are shown signs that can protect us, reassure us, or bring us peace.

I understand – ‘Oh, that’s just your imagination!’, ‘Don’t go there ….’, ‘Are you kidding me?’!  I’ve thought those things, too.  Over the years, these connections have become a part of my life.  Sometimes, a part of someone else’s life ….

Skippy …

Before a client comes, I settle into quiet meditation/prayer.  It helps me bring into greater awareness of Spirit/God and the client coming in.  One early afternoon, after centering/quiet time with a client, I began my energy session with her on the massage table.  I had barely started, and in my mind’s eye, there was a smallish brown mutt of a dog that was jumping on my leg and then jumping and skipping around the table – one energetic little mutt, for sure.  Sometimes, he jumped high enough to reach the top of the massage table – and did his best to distract me.  I was just beginning to be brave enough to share things I ‘saw’ with clients – but that day, I wasn’t brave enough and didn’t say anything to her about it.  We finished our time together and she left.

A few weeks later, she came in for another session.  Guess what?  The little brown mutt of a dog was back.  I knew from the last time, this little guy was going to be persistent.  It was obvious, he wanted to be seen AND acknowledged.  I took a breath, and told my client I had something to share with her and she could take it or leave it – no worries there!  Then I told her about this little brown mutt of a dog, skipping around the table like crazy.  She burst into tears.  She shared her story – a bit of it summed up here – When she was a little girl growing up, she had a little brown mutt.  They loved each other to pieces.  That dog went with her, everywhere.  He listened to her stories, he knew her friends and family, he knew her secrets, he knew her best of anyone.  He was her faithful companion, indeed.  And …

… His name was Skippy.

I laughed out loud!  Skippy – of course!!

She was so happy to know he was there with her.  For the rest of the session, Skippy sat calmly on the floor.  No more jumping and skipping around.  There was just a wonderful sense of contentment and quiet joy – for both of them.

Skippy never made his presence known to me after that.  And, it’s ok.  It was the first time an animal had ‘come through’ for me.  I’m so grateful, I threw fear out the window. It was important I shared seeing Skippy with my client.

It was a gift for all 3 of us.

Skippy was a Soul Connection for her.  Yes, he is her dog.  And, it’s ok …

Spirit/God doesn’t limit love and connections with only people!

As I’ve shared in the past, stories connect us, and help us realize how amazing life is on so many levels.  You may get nudges, or hear the whispers of Spirit/God, you may not.  I don’t know when/if I will get insight, or a word, or image on any given day, week, month. It’s ok.  We’re all here, sharing the journey … quirky and amazing as it is!

Blessings and Love,

Namaste

Chattering Voices … Soul Connections

Scan_20190218 (2)

Me at 5 years old.

I was 5, when I experienced a time of ‘Chattering Voices’.  I thought everyone could hear these ‘Chattering Voices’, and they just ignored them … so I tried to do the same.  They talked so fast and their sounds weren’t like our words.  Sometimes it was like a bunch of humming in different tones and pitches.  The ‘Chattering Voices’ were jumbled up and it seemed like so many voices wanted to talk to me at the same time.  I couldn’t see them, but I could feel the presence of them.  They didn’t chatter all the time, nor did they deter me from play or chores. I wasn’t awakened at night, although sometimes it was hard to fall asleep, if it was a night they decided to chatter!  I never knew what triggered them to chatter, and I was never fearful or irritated by them … they just were around.

One day, I remember playing with my dolls on the kitchen floor, while Mom was ironing.  It was a Monday or a Thursday, ’cause those were wash and iron days.  The ‘Chattering Voices’ had gotten louder and more intense, and I seriously couldn’t make out a word.  I looked up at Mom and asked her, “Do you know what they are saying?  I can’t understand them!”  She looked at me surprised and asked what I was talking about.  “The voices … can’t you hear them?”  I was taken off-guard … she couldn’t hear them??  She was taken aback, too, I think.  Very, VERY firmly and LOUD, she told me there were NO VOICES, it was all in my head and to tell them to go away FOREVER.  She was pretty upset.

THAT scared me!  It was around the time I was beginning to go to catechism, and the devil and hell and fear had definitely entered my world.  Never did I have the sense the ‘Chattering Voices’ were a bad thing, or scary.  Besides, I had my Guardian Angels and they protected me from any bad stuff.

GuardianAnges2

Non-the-less …

The ‘Chattering Voices’ were gone.

Looking back …

I think they could have been/were Souls who have crossed over and wanted to connect.  They were just too eager in getting through to me and I couldn’t decipher all those voices coming through at one time … and I was only 5 years old, for goodness sake!!  Yes, children are more open than grown-ups to sense energies and I realized …

It was a ‘heads-up’.

Now they do.

Sometimes.

And one at a time!

No more ‘Chattering Voices’.  I still don’t know what triggers a Spirit/Soul/Angel to come in. That’s ok.  When they do … Sometimes, it’s a word.  A letter.  Sometimes, an image.  Sometimes a sound.  A feather.  A dime or quarter.  A song.  A pet.  A name.  Sometimes through another person.  Sometimes in meditation, sometimes in a session with a client, sometimes in the shower.  Random at best.

Let me share a story …

I was working with a client, beginning the session with quiet time, centering prayer and healing energy (the best way to start!).  After a few minutes, I saw with my mind’s eye,  the letter ‘M’, in a beautiful cursive font.  The feeling I had, was deep love, so I mentioned this beautiful ‘M’, to my client.  Her eyes teared up and she said it was her mother-in-law who had passed.  They had a very close relationship.  ‘M’ was known for her flowing penmanship!  I then saw ‘M’ looking out a kitchen window to the backyard, where a swing set was and kids were playing.  My client smiled – yes – ‘M’ would often watch the kids play out her kitchen window and yes – there was a swing set, too!  It was a special affirmation of love for my client to know, her mother-in-law was still close by … and keeping an eye on grandchildren!  It was a lovely Soul Connection.

swings

‘Chattering Voices’ became Soul Connections for me. I can only speak for myself and my experiences.  One suggestion … If your child is seeing invisible people, or having conversations in an empty room, or ask if you hear voices … engage in conversation with them.  Ask them to describe what or who they see. What do they hear?  How do they feel?  Interest and trying to understand, lessens fear.  And they may share something amazing. It’s real for them.  If they are shut down, they may think they’ve done something wrong, or become fearful.  Wrap them in love.

Do you have Soul Connections, too?  I think many of us do …

Wishing You Blessings and Love,

Namaste

Debbie
